In the early 19th century, the tourism potential of the region was discovered, and it became a center for activities such as skiing, mountaineering, and nature walks. In the mid-20th century, several ski resorts and other tourist facilities were built in the area.
During World War II, Alpe del Nevegal was also of strategic importance. After Italy fell under German occupation, the mountainous areas in the region became a center of the local resistance movement.
